Control Systems & Mechanical Design for Autonomous Systems

I'm an aerospace engineer finishing my M.Sc. at TU Munich. I design the control loops that keep a vehicle stable, the estimators that tell it where it is, and the fault monitors that catch a failing actuator before it brings the UAV down. My work also connects deeply with mechanical design and airframe structures, from aerodynamic surfaces and lightweight composite assemblies to manufacturable UAV architectures that balance performance, reliability, and structural integrity.

Live: an observer estimates the vehicle state; the residual between measured and estimated output stays near zero until an actuator degrades. When it crosses the threshold, the fault is flagged. This is the core of my thesis.

TOP PROJECTS · 2019–2026
Research · Fault Detection and Isolation2025–26

Observer-based Actuator Fault Detection

Model-based fault detection & diagnosis for a quadrotor across nominal, faulty and uncertain conditions. Four observer schemes generate residuals from analytical redundancy between measured and estimated states; partial and total loss-of-effectiveness faults are caught with high sensitivity and low false-alarm rate.

Autonomy · ROS 22025–26

Full Autonomy Stack for a Multirotor

End-to-end autonomous flight for a ROS 2 – Unity quadrotor: a geometric tracking controller, minimum-snap trajectory planning, camera-calibration workflow, EKF state estimation and a mission-level state machine for subterranean exploration — from waypoint generation to closed-loop control.

Actuator Failure Detection Strategies for a Quadrotor UAV

A. Habib · Z. Mbikayi · Technical University of Munich
→ Semester Thesis · March 2026

Luenberger, Thau, EKF and UKF observers are evaluated as residual generators for partial and complete actuator loss-of-effectiveness. The study characterises detection sensitivity, modelling complexity and robustness against parameter uncertainty.

Design and Manufacturing of Hybrid Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) UAV

A. Habib · M. S. Azam · S. B. Khalid · U. Shahid
→ B.E. Mechanical Engineering · NUST · June 2022

Conceptual, preliminary and detailed design of an autonomous hybrid VTOL UAV, combining runway-independent vertical flight with the range and endurance of a fixed-wing aircraft. The project covered aerodynamic design, structures, propulsion, manufacturing and flight-control integration.
